Emotional Trauma and Love Addiction

Willow House at The Meadows treatment program is designed to treat and work with complex issues related to emotional trauma and relationship and intimacy disorders.

Childhood Trauma - When childhood trauma is not resolved, these fundamental issues carry over into adulthood, setting the stage for further trauma.

Depression/Anxiety - Often expressed as persistent unhappiness, hopelessness, and the loss of interest and/or pleasure in previously enjoyed activities, depression can seriously impact the quality of one’s life, if left untreated. Depression can be caused by a number of factors with most cases involving some type of trauma. Individuals suffering from anxiety disorders often experience intense, sustained anxiety and nervousness. A panic disorder is marked by recurring, unpredictable panic attacks. Various issues arising from panic/anxiety disorders include a sense of sadness, low motivation, substance use, and health problems.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - is an anxiety disorder that stems from life-threatening events or psychological trauma. Individuals who experience sudden, unprovoked, and disturbing memory flashbacks or have repeated nightmares might be suffering from PTSD. Trauma survivors may have experienced emotional childhood trauma in the form of an abusive parent or loved one. This type of abusive trauma may take the form of demanding, demeaning verbal attacks, or it could be in the form of physical or sexual abuse.

No matter what the type of childhood trauma, the negative impact on the victims is deep and lasting. While one person may find the ability to cope with a traumatic event, another may develop addictions and other behavioral issues in order to cope.

An essential component of the Willow House at The Meadows treatment program is the Survivor’s Workshop. Using the pioneering work of Senior Fellow Pia Mellody, the workshop allows patients to explore the origins of their self-defeating behaviors. Patients learn to release painful emotions and heal themselves from the shame, neglect or abandonment they have experienced in the past.

Help For Emotional Trauma

At Willow House at The Meadows, we work with patients to identify the underlying cause of their negative behaviors and emotional trauma. In a safe and nurturing community composed of their peers, women are guided on their journey of recovery by examining the underlying causes of addiction and co-occurring disorders. The goal is for these individuals to gain the courage to face difficult issues, including grief and loss; heal from emotional trauma; and become accountable for their own feelings, behaviors, and recovery.
