Family Program

Education and Understanding for Loved Ones

At Willow House at The Meadows, we consider the entire family to be our client and realize their need for recovery, too. The behavior of women with intimacy disorders of love/sexual addiction can have profound effects on partners, children, parents, and siblings. Family Week currently consists of a series of emails and phone calls on topics specifically relevant to families impacted by intimacy disorders of love/sexual addiction.

Engaging the Family

The Family Program is designed to:

  • Increase the family’s understanding of sex addiction, addiction in general, and any other mental health issues the patient may be experiencing.
  • Provide support to family members and introduce them to a lifestyle of recovery based on the 12-step program.
  • Allow family members and patients to work with clinicians to explore family dynamics.
  • Examine family-of-origin issues; learn about functional and dysfunctional family patterns and address barriers to recovery and communication.

Family Week Highlights

Due to the COVID outbreak, we have restrictions in place in accordance with CDC guidelines. That means we have currently suspended in-person Family Week programming on our campuses. But we recognize that family participation is important, and a member of the clinical team will reach out to you after your loved one admits to discuss options for family work. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to keep everyone safe and healthy.

The decision to offer the Family Week workshop and possible dates for this event will be made after the patient has admitted and a full assessment has been completed. During this process, we encourage family members and patients to identify the problems they are facing and set goals for recovery.

Family Week currently consists of a series of emails and phone calls on topics specifically relevant to families impacted intimacy disorders of love/sexual addiction. Also, patients are asked to hold themselves accountable to their family members for the impact of their addictive behaviors. Family members have an opportunity to share the thoughts and feelings they have experienced while living with their patient. Each family participates in mutual boundary-setting exercises to set limits and improve future interactions and communication. Finally, patients and their family members participate in a discharge planning session to discuss progress in treatment and aftercare options.

The Willow House Team Commitment

Our team is strongly committed to the emotional health and healing of spouses, partners, and families impacted by the consequences of sexually addictive behaviors. We understand that these behaviors often result in hurt, betrayal, and a breakdown in trust between the patient and their family members. This is why Willow House at The Meadows believes our intensive one-week Family Care Program is a crucial aspect of the recovery process, not only for the patient but also for the family members and loved ones who have been damaged by addictive behaviors.

By working together as a family, recovery can continue for a lifetime.
